Leadership Activities & Team Building
J and K Ranch-Kennels in Northwest Houston provides Leadership Activities & Team Building in a relaxed and confidential environment. Horses are prey animals with finely tuned instincts for survival and they require us to balance the task vs. relationship as the herd itself is a team with established leadership and role support.
The modality used for Team Building & Leadership Activities is commonly referred to as Equine Assisted Learning or EAL. It is not about riding, horsemanship or knowledge of horses.
There are two parts to the Team Building & Leadership Activities. The two components activities are structured to be both fun and productive. These activities are also geared toward meeting the identified objectives and goals. We recommend that you talk with your team members and leadership to obtain feedback in regards to the objectives.
To provide the best modality that fits your specific needs, we need to:
- Learn more about your organization and your team to meet your objectives,
- Set date, time, place, facilitators, hospitality and fee schedule.
We think you and your herd will find this modality both fun and productive!
We look forward to serving you and would be glad to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.

The first component is the Leadership activity which is a “hands on” relationship with a horse for each individual or group. With guidance from facilitators individual participants are given the opportunity to build relationship with their horse, refine their approach, developing trust, communication, body language awareness, evaluate response, learn what your horse needs from you and what you need from your horse. This segment is about building partnership and relationship. Our clients find these simple interactions with horses insightful, fun and applicable to their daily interactions both personally and professionally. This is followed by a processing time as a group with facilitators.
The second component is the Team Building activity in which the group is assigned a task in managing the horses as a herd. They will collaborate on a task, implement a plan, adjust the plan if needed and use creative thinking to complete the plan if necessary. This also will be followed by a processing period with facilitators giving them a chance to evaluate themselves as a group.
