"P.O.W.E.R. professional Organization of Women Entrepreneurs Rising brought M.K. Kelley Smith in to conduct an EGALA program with 16 CEOs. Our goal was to broaden our emotional intelligence, build stronger relationships, and develop awareness of our physical communication challenges. What an amazing day – inspirational, horses were excellent teachers, and everyone gained insights and had a great time."

"It is with great pleasure that I recommend the Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) Leadership workshop at the J & K Ranch Kennel in Houston, Texas. During this half-day workshop, our 21 business leaders improved their communication skills by recognizing their conscious and unconscious patterns of interacting with others. Our leaders learned how to set boundaries without any words. After each interaction, our leaders went through a debrief session sharing what they learned about themselves and the skills they were using with the horses. This workshop was a fun and active way for our leaders to learn about engagement, partnership, two way communication, balancing task vs. relationship, trust, focus and body language as it relates to leadership. I am happy to say that we were able to immediately apply what we learned back at work. The half-day spent at the ranch was a unique way to grow our leadership competencies. I would recommend this program to any leader, new or tenured, who wants to become more self-aware while practicing patience and humility as they work through the process of change."

Team Building Workshop with horses near Houston TX

J & K Ranch Kennel offers a unique, solution oriented approach to issues that may be barriers to productivity in the workplace, group, company or corporation.

Because horses are prey animals with finely tuned instincts for survival they require us to balance the relationship/task component required for successful true communication.

The modality used for Team Building is Equine Assisted Learning, commonly referred to as EAL. EAL is an unmounted activity or task with a horse or horses. It is not about riding, horsemanship skill or knowledge of horses.

All scheduled EAL or Team Building takes place in a relaxed and confidential environment. Your group, company or organization is given an assigned task or activity with a horse or horses tailored to that organization’s stated goals and identified issues. This is followed by a processing or discussion period facilitated by the licensed professionals matched to serve your group or organization. The “take away” provides the individuals and the group with both insight and assessment of relationship skills that are applicable both personally and professionally. Following the processing period, individual meetings with the licensed professional facilitator can be scheduled as part of the event.

Some of the common issues we see organizations dealing with are approach, meeting the needs of the other teammates, company or client. Other issues may be effective, concise communication, language or cultural barriers, understanding the needs and the goals of the client or potential client and working as a team to serve the client. Equine Assisted Learning or EAL also addresses body language, intent, focus, trust , confidence, leadership, creative problem solving, motivation, fears, change, risk, creating a safe environment and emotional intelligence issues.
